Citizen satellite and basemap reports arrive as screenshots, forum posts, and occasional named press. This ledger’s house style is short and reusable:

  1. Prefer named public outlets and any official register or agency path over anonymous threads.
  2. Separate pixels under review from specimen claims.
  3. Label status honestly — usually open until a chart, wake, or sensor artifact explanation lands; hoax when an explained candidate is clear.
  4. Never host news screenshots of Google Earth crops without rights; illustrate with PD/CC geography only.

The live Loch Ness Google Earth family file is the working exemplar. This note does not duplicate that case; it teaches the template. Status cited as method documentation.
