The last known thylacine died in a Hobart zoo on 7 September 1936. Two years later an official party was searching western Tasmania for survivors, and eighty years after that the state government was still logging reports of striped animals crossing roads at dusk. This case follows the records, not the animal.
The FAA has a record of ice falling from airliners onto houses and cars, from leaking lavatory systems. In January 2000, Spain had a run of large ice blocks falling from cloudless skies, and its scientists argued they weren't from aircraft. One case is solved and one is still open.
On the night of 1 April 1897, thousands in Kansas City watched a moving light the wire called an airship. Flagstaff reprinted the dispatch a week later. Two weeks after that, it printed a cocktail recipe for seeing one.
In September 1898, an elderly woman on the east side of Phoenix asked the county for protection from someone pelting her home with stones. Crowds came to watch, two rival papers covered it, and nine months later the case had still never been explained.
One late-evening thunderstorm in July 2012, a team studying ordinary lightning on China's Qinghai Plateau recorded a glowing ball rising from a ground strike about 900 meters away. Their spectrum found silicon, iron and calcium, the stuff of soil. It's the best instrumental record of natural ball lightning, and it doesn't settle what ball lightning is.
For two centuries people around New York's Seneca Lake, and later the Carolina coast, have heard deep booms like distant cannon. The USGS says many booms are human-made and some are tiny, shallow earthquakes. The famous “Seneca legend” about them comes from an 1850 James Fenimore Cooper story written as political satire.
A Cody, Wyoming resident says the white lights he watched rise over Cedar Mountain all last winter came back in late September 2026. Every account traces to one local news report. Open, and most likely prosaic, until someone lines up flight tracks and sky charts.
A dark sphere over a Los Angeles freeway went viral as an evening traffic-report mystery. The footage is actually from FOX 11’s own chopper stream at twilight on September 15, 2026 — still unidentified, most likely mundane.
Public FOIA packages show Air Force/AARO acknowledging Eglin-related records while citing exemptions to withhold — acknowledgment ≠ release.
CENTCOM forwards a 16-second phone recording of an AC-130J IR display; DVIDS flags the secondary-capture fidelity limit.
A planned Inverness trip, Google Earth’s east shore, and three arcs under review — not confirmed Nessie, not dismissed either.
CENTCOM 2023 IR (~51s): contrast enters frame, sensor pans to track; official description declines judgment.
The Mariana Montana film travels with Utah footage inside the 1953 Navy analysis (D098) — better photogrammetry ≠ final taxonomy.
A New Mexico ranch recovery, a hurried press note, and a retraction that never quite settled the file.
A ~1m46s INDOPACOM IR track zooms into an elongated line of contrast patches that fade with distance — still not an ID.
Navy photographer Delbert Newhouse’s 16mm Kodachrome reappears as a DoD digitization — old primary media as new access.
Yale’s undeciphered illustrated codex: the library dates it to the late 15th or 16th century and does not endorse decipherment claims.
INDOPACOM forwards ~57 seconds of 2023 IR showing a tracked contrast patch and focus box — informational only, unresolved.
A one-minute infrared clip from a 2025 Middle East platform enters the Pentagon’s sixth UAP release — unresolved, agile, no ET conclusion.
